A Case study for InkMarket
InkMarket is a platform for tattoo artists to sell their tattoo artwork as NFTs and for collectors to purchase them. For each piece of tattoo artwork uploaded, InkMarket mints a unique NFT, as a keepsake and certificate of authenticity.

How does it work?
-
1. Artists upload tattoo artwork
-
2. InkMarket mints it into an NFT
-
3. Collectors purchase these NFT
We interviewed 9 users remotely.
These interviewees include tattoo artists who would upload their tattoo artwork as NFTs to sell on the InkMarket marketplace, tattoo clients who browse tattoo artwork and purchase them as NFTs, and crypto-savvy individuals who are knowledgeable about crypto and keep up with the latest trends and changes in this market.
Problem
There’s an opportunity to make the onboarding process trustworthy and easier to understand, and thus increase the number of users that sign-up and use the site.
Design an intuitive and welcoming marketplace for tattoo artists to sell and showcase their tattoo artwork as NFTs to tattoo clients and collectors. A platform that allows all users to take advantage of the benefits that NFTs bring while providing all the resources and basic knowledge to get started.
How has the solution addressed both InkMarket’s business goals + user needs?
We have successfully embedded an intuitive nft platform into the InkMarket Website which resonates with users and helps them search for, post and find nft tattoos. We have incorporated within the design an easy process to make and customize accounts. We have resolved the difficulties of navigating an overwhelming ui design which is common to nft platforms so that users can easily purchase an nft. We’ve allowed the user the space to build trust in the artist and in the InkMarket Marketplace experience. We have generated a platform to create revenue for the business and stakeholders.
We have recovered the acquisition of inherent value of sketches from the tattoo artists’ design process. We have removed the impediment to creating good art by including the sketching process within the framework of the tattooing process by providing clients a way to see their artwork before it is tattooed on them. We have addressed the barrier of entry of requiring substantial resources to learn about nfts, which stopped users from entering into crypto based business.
Through help pages and in-context help throughout the website, we have addressed the steady learning curve which inhibits user engagement. Users can store and hold tattoo NFTs in this Marketplace, some of whom may eventually seek to get the flash tattooed.
